Cusco is a city filled with cultural expressions of all sorts; from its buildings, Machu Picchu and other archeological sites, textiles or the dances and costumes worn by its people. There is a big artistic movement in Cusco, from ceramic family businesses that have been around for decades to entire towns dedicated to keeping ancient textile techniques alive.
Our neighbourhood, San Blas, is known for its artistic workshops and stores, visitors can discover them while walking in our little pedestrian streets. At Atoq San Blas we have a commitment with pervivan culture, this is why we are looking to become a place for Peruvian artists, were they can showcase their work to both visitors and residents of Cusco.
On August 14th we organised the opening vernisage of the first art showcase organised by Atoq San Blas. The artist selecting on this occasion, after a call for artists and a selection made by our qualifying committee, was Andres Gutierrez, an artist from Ayacucho that now resides in Cusco.
At the opening night we welcomed different guests from Cusco as well as guests of Atoq San Blas, we enjoyed a lovely evening, shared a moment together and admired the art pieces showed in the gallery.
The work of Andres G. works different techniques, such as oil and acrylic paintings and a series of drawings elaborated with stamps from Peruvian coins. He focused and mixes aspects from the Andes and the feminine side of things.
This exhibition, which we hope is the first of many more to come, will last until the 31st of September. We invite all our guests as well as the general public to visit us and take in all the art and culture that surround Cusco.
